DJI Mavic Pro (original)

The Mavic Pro is a foldable drone made by DJI. When it was first released in 2016, it revolutionized the consumer drone market with its high top speeds, long battery life, high quality and versatile camera, and a surprisingly long range.

I was given a Mavic Pro for Christmas in 2017. Since then it has performed phenomenally, with over 25 hours in the air, and only 1 minor incident in which only replacement propellers were necessary. While I am no photographer, I can confidently say that this drone takes astounding photos. It is fitted with a Sony Exmor R IMX377, specifically designed by Sony for the drone.

This drone is the perfect combination of quality and portability. My biggest problem with most drones is their sheer size and weight, which make taking one anywhere impractical and quite frankly, not much fun. The Mavic solved this problem. Weighing only 743g, you can easily carry it in a backpack over long distances. Additionally, if you are planning to take your drone on vacation, it comes in a small 10x10x4 box which fits in any size suitcase.

The drone is a marvelous piece of technology and engineering. DJI clearly spent a lot of effort developing it, and their effort shows. The Mavic is incredibly easy to fly and has sensors that stop the drone if it goes within 20 ft of any object, building, or tree, which makes crashing it rather difficult. I would recommend it to anyone, even if they are not tech savvy.
